The Sabine Pass community and surrounding areas are reeling after a devastating multi-vehicle collision on Highway 87 claimed its fifth life. Officials confirmed that 22-year-old Caleb Burge has died from injuries sustained in the crash, which involved a passenger van, a Prevost bus, and an Audi on Monday afternoon. His passing adds to the grief felt by multiple families and leaves the community searching for answers.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a Chevrolet Express passenger van traveling northwest crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a southeast-bound Prevost bus. Following the initial collision, an Audi collided with the rear of the bus. Four victims — including the van’s driver, 28-year-old Cesar Rojas of Baytown, and passengers Emmanuel Reynosa Rivas (27), Angel Dominguez (28), and Osvaldo Alvarez (37) — were pronounced dead at the scene.
Several others sustained injuries and were hospitalized, with some now released while others continue to receive care. Those injured include Raul Silberio Trujillo (38), Rodolfo Garay Jr. (37), Fernando Rojas (50), Robert Zackery Sebastia Hoyt (26), as well as the bus and Audi drivers. Authorities have not fully detailed the condition of all injured parties.
The crash prompted a significant emergency response and remains under active investigation as the Texas Department of Public Safety works to determine how the van entered oncoming traffic. LNG officials, whose bus was contracted through an EPC contractor, confirmed the bus was empty at the time and expressed condolences to those affected.
The tragedy has left the Sabine Pass community and neighboring areas mourning the rapidly rising death toll. Families and friends of the victims are coming together in grief, while residents hope for clarity and answers as authorities continue their investigation into one of the region’s most severe roadway accidents in recent memory.
May the victims, including Caleb Burge, rest in peace, and may their families find comfort and support during this difficult time.
