The Pueblo community is mourning the tragic death of Andrew Mendoza following a late-night crash connected to an earlier domestic disturbance investigation.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, officers were initially dispatched shortly after 10:30 p.m. on May 20, 2026, to the 800 block of Beulah Avenue after reports of a domestic fight.

Authorities said witnesses informed officers that one of the individuals involved left the scene driving a white SUV before police arrived. Officers later attempted a traffic stop, but the driver reportedly failed to stop and fled the area. Police stated they did not pursue the SUV and instead continued investigating the original disturbance call.

A short time later, emergency dispatchers received reports of a serious crash at the intersection of Northern Avenue and Van Buren Street. When officers arrived, investigators determined the crashed vehicle was the same white SUV connected to the earlier incident.

Police said Andrew Mendoza was ejected from the SUV during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the driver is expected to be formally released by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators have not yet confirmed what factors contributed to the crash, including whether speed, impairment, or other circumstances played a role. Authorities noted that the collision marks Pueblo’s seventh fatal traffic accident of 2026.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue working to reconstruct the events leading up to the deadly crash.
