Marion County, Ohio, is grieving the tragic loss of 54-year-old Shawn R. Woolum, who died in a motorcycle crash on Monday evening, May 18, 2026. The collision occurred at approximately 6:08 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 4 and White Oaks Road in Pleasant Township.
Authorities report that Woolum was riding a black 2017 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse motorcycle when a red 2011 Kia Forte, operated by a 16-year-old driver, attempted a left turn onto White Oaks Road from northbound State Route 4. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver allegedly failed to yield to the southbound motorcycle, resulting in a collision that threw Woolum from his motorcycle, causing catastrophic injuries.
Emergency responders transported Woolum to Marion General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The juvenile driver sustained minor injuries and was also treated at Marion General Hospital. Officials noted that Woolum was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Multiple agencies, including Pleasant Township Fire and EMS, Marion Township EMS, Kirby’s Towing, and Precision Towing, assisted at the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
