The Charlotte community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Joseph Samuel, a 16-year-old whose life was tragically cut short following a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon in northeast Charlotte.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers with the Homicide Unit responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 100 block of Tom Hunter Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Joseph Samuel suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel with Medic transported the teenager to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where doctors and medical staff worked to save his life. Despite those efforts, Joseph later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities confirmed the victim’s identity as 16-year-old Joseph Samuel, whose death has left family members, friends, classmates, and the wider Charlotte community devastated by the sudden and violent loss of a young life filled with promise and potential.

At this time, investigators have not announced any arrests or publicly identified a suspect connected to the shooting. Officials say the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation as detectives continue gathering evidence, reviewing leads, and speaking with witnesses.
