The Aiken community is mourning the tragic loss of Charles Cooper, who died following a devastating crash on Tuesday afternoon, May 19, along Columbia Highway North near Beaverdam Road.

According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, emergency officials responded to the scene at approximately 2:19 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious single-vehicle accident involving a 1998 Dodge Ram traveling southbound on Columbia Highway North.

Investigators believe that 64-year-old Charles Cooper of Aiken experienced a witnessed medical emergency while driving. Shortly afterward, the vehicle reportedly left the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned.

First responders arrived quickly and worked to assist those involved in the crash. Despite their efforts, Charles Cooper was pronounced deceased at 2:50 p.m.
