Family and friends are mourning the heartbreaking loss of David Polefrone, who passed away on May 2, 2026, at the age of 26 in Washington. His passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, while his legacy of intelligence, compassion, and generosity continues to inspire everyone whose lives he touched.

Born in South Carolina to Amy and Phillip Polefrone, David demonstrated remarkable curiosity and academic brilliance from an early age. He pursued higher education at University of Maryland, where he majored in economics and chemistry. During his time there, he became deeply involved in student life through Student Government, parliamentary debate, and the prestigious Omicron Delta Kappa society. His dedication, leadership, and academic excellence earned him honors recognition and the admiration of classmates and professors alike.

David later continued his studies at University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry. Passionate about discovery and learning, he approached every subject with enthusiasm and remarkable focus. Recently, he had begun an exciting new chapter in Washington, D.C., launching a promising career in data science and applying his analytical talents to innovative projects.

While David’s academic and professional accomplishments were extraordinary, those closest to him say his greatest gift was his heart. He was known for his warmth, kindness, thoughtful conversations, and unwavering encouragement of others. Friends describe him as someone who made people feel welcomed, valued, and inspired. Whether through meaningful discussions, heartfelt hugs, or simple acts of kindness, David left a lasting impact everywhere he went.

His love for family was central to his life. He is survived by his loving parents, Phil and Amy Polefrone; his sister Joy and brother-in-law Nick; grandparents Jim and Judy; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by grandparents Joe and Mae.

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Naples United Church of Christ in Naples. A second memorial service is planned for later this summer in Ellicott City, with additional details to be announced by the family.

In honor of David’s passions and interests, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to organizations meaningful to him, including the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, The American Legion, Omicron Delta Kappa at the University of Maryland, the Henrietta Lacks Foundation, or the Bird Gardens of Naples.

As loved ones continue mourning this tremendous loss, they are also celebrating a life filled with brilliance, compassion, curiosity, and love. David Polefrone’s spirit and memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched so deeply.
