The community of Windham is mourning the tragic loss of Leonard West, a 73-year-old local resident who died following a collision Tuesday morning on Tandberg Trail.
According to Kevin Schofield, the crash occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. near the Little Mart along Route 115.
Investigators reported that a contractor-owned van was attempting to turn left out of the convenience store parking lot to travel westbound on Tandberg Trail when it collided with West’s motorcycle, which was traveling eastbound on the roadway.
The impact left Leonard West critically injured. Emergency responders from Windham Emergency Medical Services quickly transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite those efforts, authorities confirmed that he later succumbed to his injuries.
Officials stated that the driver of the van was not injured in the collision and has not been publicly identified while the investigation remains ongoing. At this time, police have not announced whether any charges are being considered.
Following the accident, portions of Tandberg Trail between Smith Road and Falmouth Road were temporarily closed as emergency crews responded to the scene and investigators documented evidence related to the crash.
