The community of Newfoundland is mourning the tragic death of Ryan M. Johnson, 28, who lost his life in a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday night in Palmyra Township, Pike County. His sudden passing has left family and friends devastated as they cope with the heartbreaking loss.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. on May 17 at the intersection of Route 507 and Route 390. Investigators said Johnson was riding a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 400 when the collision occurred.

Authorities reported that a 2017 Nissan Murano driven by a 17-year-old female from Tafton had stopped at a posted stop sign on Route 390 before attempting to turn left onto southbound Route 507. As the SUV entered the roadway, Johnson’s motorcycle struck the rear portion of the vehicle.

Officials confirmed that Johnson suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities also stated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the SUV was not injured and declined medical treatment at the scene. Police indicated that the SUV driver’s primary violation involved failure to observe duties at a stop sign. Investigators also noted that Johnson was cited for driving at a safe speed, and preliminary findings suggest alcohol consumption and excessive speed may have been contributing factors in the collision.

Emergency responders, including Troop R CARS and the Forensic Services Unit, assisted at the scene as investigators worked through the night. The crash remains under active investigation.

As loved ones grieve this devastating loss, Ryan M. Johnson is being remembered for his life, his relationships, and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His passing leaves a lasting void in the hearts of family, friends, and the community.
