Authorities in Wichita are continuing to investigate after a woman was found deceased Tuesday morning at Cessna Park in the city’s southeast area.

According to the Wichita Police Department, officers responded shortly after 8:30 a.m. following reports of an unresponsive woman in a parking lot section of the park near Kincade and Wallace, close to the intersection of Mount Vernon and Woodlawn.

When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was already deceased. Investigators stated that she appeared to have been in the area for an undetermined amount of time before being discovered.

Authorities later identified the woman as Julia Felt, 47, after next of kin notifications and standard investigative procedures were completed.

Preliminary assessments have suggested the possibility of a drug overdose, though officials emphasized that this remains an early determination and has not been officially confirmed. The final cause and manner of death will be determined by the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office following a full autopsy and toxicology examination.

Police stated that there were no immediate indications of foul play, but investigators continue to review all possibilities while the case remains active.

Following the discovery, law enforcement secured portions of the park while detectives and crime scene personnel conducted a detailed examination of the area. Members of the public were temporarily asked to avoid the vicinity as evidence was collected and investigative work continued.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the events leading up to Julia Felt’s death or whether she had previously been reported missing. Detectives are continuing to gather information and are encouraging anyone with relevant details to contact the Wichita Police Department.

As the investigation moves forward, the Wichita community is left awaiting answers while loved ones mourn the loss of Julia Felt.

May she rest in peace.
