According to police, the shooting occurred in the 9600 block of McKinney Street near Interstate 94, between Whittier Avenue and Berkshire Street. Authorities said the incident was first detected around 1:48 p.m. through the city’s ShotSpotter system, which alerted officers to multiple rounds of gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived, they discovered both victims suffering from gunshot wounds near parked vehicles in a residential section of the neighborhood. Despite emergency response efforts, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators indicated that preliminary evidence suggests the attack may have been targeted. Authorities stated that shell casing patterns and the apparent direction of gunfire indicate the suspect approached the area on foot before opening fire and fleeing. At this time, no suspect information has been publicly released as detectives continue reviewing surveillance footage and collecting evidence.

Officials also confirmed that a 1-month-old infant was found unharmed in the back seat of one of the vehicles involved in the incident. The child was safely taken into protective care and is expected to be reunited with family members.
